York Orientation Day (YOD)

  • September 4th, 2019: Fall (Collaborative & Second-Entry)
  • January 7th, 2020: Winter (Internationally Educated Nurses)
  • February 28th / March 6th: Georgian and Seneca College Students

NSTAMP’s role in this event was focused on welcoming junior nursing students to York University. Our aim was to help facilitate a smooth transition, ease any anxiety students had, inform students on the resources and leadership opportunities offered by NSTAMP to assist students as well as inform them of all other resources available to them at York and finally answer any questions related to pursuing nursing at York University!

YorkFest

NSTAMP played an active role at York University’s annual orientation festival geared to encourage student engagement with the many student clubs and resources available at York University!

Colleges Visit 

An opportunity for junior students who would soon be transitioning into York University to meet senior students and ask any questions or concerns they may have. The goal of this event was to help facilitate a smooth transition, educate students on all the resources and leadership opportunities available to assist them and enhance their transition experience as well as their experience at York University.

Financial Literacy

NSTAMP collaborated with the Royal Bank of Canada located on York University campus to deliver a financial literacy workshop for York students, especially nursing students. The goal of this event was to educate students and support students as they transition from student life to work life. Content covered at the event included budgeting, investments, loans, mortgages and retirement savings.

Battle of the Brains

NSTAMP hosted York’s first ever trivia night with NCLEX style questions and skills contest! This event gave nursing students the opportunity to get more exposure to NCLEX style questions and practice answering them. As well, it gave students the opportunity to practice some important foundational nursing skills in a fun and friendly competitive environment!

Alumni Event

Nursing Alumni from York University as well as other experienced nurses from different specialties - Cardiology, Paediatrics, ER, ICU, Nursing Resource Team (NRT), Ambulatory Clinic & Infection Control and Prevention - were invited as panelists for the Alumni Event. Topics of discussion included:

  • Description on their experience transitioning from students to new graduates and tips on how to successfully transition
  • Detailed description of their respective specialties
  • Tips on how to effectively prepare for NCLEX
